Thanks to Matt I have spent the entire morning watching CurrentTV. I am still waiting for my friend to show up. When she gets here, I'll show her too. If you click the image here it'll take you directly to the featured "pod" (3-5 minute documentary). All made by people just like you and me, pretty much. You can submit your work to the website then people watch them and vote on them. If you get enough votes they broadcast it on tv.
This is so interesting. I mean, I don't really have words yet here to describe it. I'm still watching all these really great little video-stories. I'd like to think this could really transform the role of television in our society.
Wow. What a question! What if average people could just make tv themselves? What if you had a website that gave you a little know-how and said go! Just go film something. Tell us a story. Wow.
Now I still think fimmaking's not completely accessible. In fact, looking at the cost of some of the equipment, despite what Spike Lee said last night, digital cameras are not cheap. I don't have the money for that. I don't have the money to pay my power bill this month. But I could borrow it. And they tell you some cheap shortcuts. Use a white piece of cardboard as a light reflector. Buy some cheap clip on industrial lights from the local hardware store instead of a filmmaker's indoor light stand. There are possibilities here. There are always possibilities.
Go check 'em out. Watch some "pods". (You can do it online) Then come tell me what you think.
