The Washington Post editorialized today in support of the new free trade agreement with Colombia! It was probably a necessary reality check for those of us hoping for a revival of the distinction between left and right in this country and a reminder that we need to renewed opposition to legislation such as this that is harmful to the interests of working class people and the values of this country. Globalization should be about human rights and common welfare for all, not outsourcing labor to whoever will work for the least amount of money!
Working Life,a good blog for labor issues, has a link to a Public Citizen report that reminds us of some of these issues as well as a post about how the human rights situation in Colombia continues to be problematic.
Shame on the Post for its support of profits for the few and misery for the majority!

The Colombian people themselves want this free trade agreement, just like the people of Chile did and now have it and it has been excellent for them. Why is that a BAD thing?
You are hooked on the wall of anti-trade by your own doing from your theories that get in the way of allowing you to see what is really going on. Your mind is so theorized that anything to do with business, profits, trade, causes all your wheels come off. You are smarter then that and your not using your own mind or common sense,
People in Latin America who want it. Now it you support Hugo Chavez, who is the next dictator who will have blood on his hands know here, then we will never agree. But make note, no one in Chile (even the fare left socialists) likes Hugo Chavez. But if you want to support him against their will, hey it’s a free world, but you are the one who looks the fool.
I read your June 25, 2006 pieces on Casablanca Chile and saw how far off you were too. I know, I have lived and worked in Casablanca Chile for 8 years now, and I am an American who grew up in Los Angeles. You can not come into Casablanca, ask some questions and think you know what is going on or what these people really need. You of all people should know that concerning standpoint theory.
Get Real!
