Yes. And I'm sure this is not only the case at Wal-Mart. I always wonder why people do not see the connection between ever-lower prices and rising unemployment. If you're going to buy something that costs $10, just think a second: If it's $10, the merchant probably buys it for $4. How long could a North-American worker work for $4? (Cost for material not even considered.) Is this a realistic time for manufacturing the product, even in a highly efficient factory? Or doesn't this look like another case of imported stuff from a low-wage country?
And worst, I have to admit that I often go for the cheap stuff myself. See, I have no money to waste, do I? But in the long term this attitude will not keep us employed.
